| Join us on a fascinating journey through north west England’s industrial heartland, and many of the fabulous rural stretches in between, as we follow the old Lancashire and Cheshire borders out into the wide open spaces of the Mersey estuary. It’s a unique journey through time, passing houses, wharfs, locks and bridges mostly unchanged since they were built well over 100 years ago. With a visit to historic Chester, and the East Lancs Railway also included, we’re sure you’ll agree that this is certainly a weekend with a difference!

INCLUDED EXCURSIONS
Saturday – EAST LANCS RAILWAY - We travel to Bury for a 'heritage' railway ride through the scenic Irwell Valley to Rawtenstall. Just accros the road from Rawtenstall station is Britain's last remaining temperance bar - dandelian & burdock and sarsaparilla on tap! Try it before we catch the train back to Bury.
Sunday – MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL CRUISE – We join the Mersey Ferries ship at Salford Quays for a fascinating six hour leisurely cruise along the whole length of the Manchester Ship Canal. The 35 mile cruise includes live commentary and takes in some spectacular scenery as we journey through one of Britain’s most important waterways. Refreshments and snacks are available on board. Upon arrival at Liverpool Pier Head our coach will be waiting to return us to our hotel.
Monday - CHESTER – On our return we can discover the ancient city of Chester's unique atmosphere. Explore the delightful two tiered 'Rows' shopping area, enjoy a stroll around the city historic walls, meander down to the river Dee and maybe take a boat trip - there's always so much to see and do in this lovely city. |
